About this camp: No experience is necessary as new volunteers will work alongside students and experienced volunteers for hands-on learning opportunities. This year, volunteers will assist with test excavations and historic preservation tasks in an abandoned mining town in Wyoming, with workdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in a supportive environment.
Work: – Volunteers will assist in field excavations and maintenance tasks.- The workday runs from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.- Hard physical labor includes digging, screening soil, and carrying buckets.- Each individual works at their own pace based on physical condition.- Essential items to bring include work gloves, appropriate clothing, and sunscreen.
Accommodation and Food: – Volunteers will tent camp with field school students.- All food and meals will be provided, with shared cooking duties.- Excursions to town will happen every other day for personal items and snacks.
Leisure Activities: – The camp is located in a rural area of Wyoming, rich in natural beauty.- Volunteers will attend local cultural events and field trips to significant areas.- An international archaeological symposium will be part of the activities.
