About this camp: The host community of Germersheim seeks assistance in renovating the fortress museum, specifically the Ludwigstor, which is closed for restoration and will reopen in 2026. Volunteers will work on restoring exhibition rooms to their historical state by refurbishing windows, removing modern elements, and recreating original architectural features.
Work: – Renovate exhibition rooms to restore them to their original historical state.- Thoroughly refurbish historical windows and remove plywood panels blocking daylight.- Remove PVC coverings from wooden floors without damaging the substrate.- Dismantle modern door frames and wall areas that obstruct former passageways.- Document work digitally through video diaries or photo documentation of changes.
Accommodation and Food: – Stay in rooms of the former district administration in the center of Germersheim.- Cook meals together with provided money for shopping.- Vegetarian or vegan meal options are available; dietary intolerances should be indicated at registration.
Leisure Activities: – Explore nearby Speyer, reachable in 12 minutes by S-Bahn, featuring a historic old town and various attractions.- Visit university cities like Heidelberg and Karlsruhe, and travel to France’s Strasbourg.- Enjoy outdoor activities like hiking in the Palatinate Forest and take guided tours of Germersheim.
