About this camp: The workcamp focuses on PEACE, combining volunteering, historical learning, and exchange with local villagers. Participants will engage in maintenance tasks at the border memorial, explore the history of the Iron Curtain, and discuss personal perspectives on peace with locals.
Work: – Engage in maintenance work at the border memorial, including mowing and building seating areas.- Learn about the history of the Iron Curtain and Germany’s division through excursions.- Share personal views on peace and discuss related topics with other volunteers and locals.- Participate in exchanges with local associations, learning about their daily lives.- Communicate in German or use a phone translator for better interaction.
Accommodation and Food: – Stay in a renovated former village hall with several holiday apartments, providing comfortable accommodations.- Volunteers will share responsibilities for grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning, promoting teamwork.- Limited Wi-Fi access, and a sustainable approach to meals is encouraged to reduce carbon footprint.
Leisure Activities: – Engage with locals in the village of Htensleben, which has a history of hosting international workcamps.- Participate in joint activities with local organizations, such as the voluntary fire brigade.- Use bicycles for mobility during free time to explore nearby attractions like the swimming pool.
